Whether you play an acoustic that has a built-in pickup or not, there are many ways to improve the tone that comes out of your acoustic.
Many acoustic guitars these days come with a built-in amplification system known as an acoustic guitar pick up. You can mike your acoustic guitar if you are playing live, or recording. You can also have your guitar come directly out of an acoustic guitar amplifier if you have a guitar pick up.
Let’s take a look at 4 easy strategies that will help you to have a great tone come out of your acoustic guitar.
1. Fresh Strings. 2. Fresh Guitar Pick. 3. Fresh Batteries. 4. Eq Controls.
1. Fresh Strings: One of the most easy and cost effective ways to increase the tone in your acoustic guitar is to purchase a fresh set of strings. All strings get old and corrode due to natural wear and tear, and corrosive sweat from your fingertips. The more you play your guitar strings the more of a dead sound you will get from your guitar strings causing a less than colourful acoustic tone. Again, this is easily rectified by changing your strings on a regular basis.
2. Fresh Guitar Pick: Always make sure that you have extra guitar picks on hand. Picks wear out on the bottom tip that can affect the sound that comes out of your instrument when you play a scale or chords. By always ensuring you are playing with a fresh pick, you will help the tone that is produced from your acoustic.
3. Fresh Batteries: Many amplified acoustic pick ups require a 9 V battery to power up the acoustic pickups and control box. Make sure that you have an adequate supply of fresh batteries so that you’re sound is not compromised. Many guitar players are not aware that when you plug-in your cable into your acoustic, that this turns on the battery unit. The weaker your battery gets, the weaker your guitar tone will be on your acoustic.
4. Eq Controls: Become familiar with your EQ settings that are located generally on the top end of the body of your acoustic. Even the slightest change within the EQ settings can dramatically affect the tone that will come out of your acoustic guitar pickups, which in turn will affect the sound that comes out of your acoustic amplifier or sound system.
